WOW. I’m bowled over by the great response to the Week 1 Summer Reading Challenge. Thank you to everyone who participated, commented, and shared!
Here’s the activity for Week 2 of the Summer Reading Challenge: SHARING IS CARING. Let’s get to it!
Find a children’s book to donate with your kids and encourage them to write a note about what they enjoyed about the book and slip it inside. Head to a Little Free Library so they can leave their book for someone else to find. Encourage them to take a book as well!
*If there aren’t any children’s books to take, consider discussing how their book donation will make another kid happy. And then, go to your library!
What you’ll need:
A children’s book to donate
Post-it or scrap paper + pen
Reading buddies
Purpose:
Sharing our love for reading with others is fun
Ask kids:
To leave a note about what they enjoyed in the book they are donating
“How did it feel to share a book?”
“What do you think about these Little Free Libraries? Why do you think they exist?”
“What makes a Little Free Library different from the public library?”
Adapting by age:
For very young kids, you’ll probably select the book to donate and write what they enjoyed about the book. That said, even a new toddler can reach into the Little Free Library and pick a book to keep!
Please come back and share the books your kids donated and the ones they brought back home!
Just shared The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear for kids who like animals and funny stories and we scored Yo! Yes? by Chris Raschka. And we made it to the free little library around the corner and back before the rainstorms came in. Thanks for helping us start our weekend off on a nice note!
That’s awesome (and incredibly generous)! And that is a great find—love Chris Raschka books. Thank you for participating and hope your kids enjoyed the activity!
I don't know how I missed this series before but it's SO great
Thank you, so glad you found it and you’re here!
This is on our summer fun reading list and it’s yet to be crossed off! We will have to do in it the next few days—I’ll report back :)
Can't wait to hear about it!

Great Idea! I have a stack to donate by the door already.
I'm excited to see the conversations you have with your littles about this!
Love this Sri! We get duplicates gifted to us all the time and so I have been bringing them to free libraries in our local parks.
That’s amazing! That’s such a smart way to contribute to your local LFLs!
