Corduroy is a favorite in our house. I will say my kids were unfamiliar with department stores :/ and were initially confused about the setting.

You know that’s such a good point! Well I feel old now. We need a reprint of Corduroy with modern shopping methods! 😂

We love Corduroy in our house! For those with Tonie boxes, the Tonie is narrated by Viola Davis and is very well done. My kids love to "read" the books while they listen to the stories.

That’s so cool! Did you know she wrote a Corduroy sequel? I haven’t read it (yet) but it’s called Corduroy Takes a Bow. Now that I know she also narrated the book for TonieBox, I’m curious to learn what her personal history is with Corduroy since she clearly loves the story.

Yes, that one is included on the Tonie! She did a nice job with it. I'd love to know more about her connection to it, as well!

My two year old got Corduroy this summer and we must have read it 500 times in a month. I was also so glad that it held up so well and is such a sweet story.

I love Corduroy. I need to introduce it to my kids! The movies from the 80s was a staple in my house.

Are we talking the live action Corduroy film? Because this has just unlocked so many memories!

I love love love that Corduroy holds up under the microscope of the reread. Him thinking everything is something else … a mountain, a palace, we love that. Though the clown neighbor is one that I hope doesn’t come alive when the department store gets dark. lol. 😂 The sequel is equally sweet AND Lisa gets to run a freaking errand by themselves. If only.

This is one of my favourite books! Along with The Snowy Day by Keats. Two books featuring non-white characters that were present in our at-home library when I was a kid. I am grateful that my mom loved books and chose titles for the story and feeling.

I love Corduroy. It really does stand the test of time. I liked reading it to my kid because we also live in an apartment building, and it was nice to have that portrayed in a kid's book.

Yes, I loved seeing NYC brought to life in this picture book. That brings up a good point (and maybe new idea?) that we don’t see city living as often in picture books.

Yes, I would love that! We also used to read Snowy Day for that reason (and also b/c it's a perfect classic!). There's no mention of apt buildings, but The Last Stop on Market Street and Subway by Christoph Nieman where other favorites that I thought did a good job showing city life! I banned The Little House in our house b/c I thought it was so hateful about city living, LOL!

Done! Adding this topic to my list ❤️

And good call about Little House… they definitely weren’t fans of city living 😂
