I love Fall...although I have noticed since having kids Fall does have the harbinger of cold coming effect on me. I don't enjoy winter with kids :( But I do love fall and I try to focus on being present. Got a new pumpking candle this weekend...

I can definitely relate to the dread of knowing that behind fall lurks winter. Enjoy all things pumpkin this season!

Kafka and the Doll looks like a thought-provoking read! I just requested it from our library. Thanks for the great recommendations!

Apple pies and a global adventure, sounds like a brilliant combination, will try and find a copy. Some lovely other books in your list too. My son's class have got Susanne Berner Rotraut's Autumn picture book as their book of the month, a really nice wordless series. These seasonal books are perfect timing as our local farm opens for apple picking this weekend 🍎🍏🍎🍏

I LOVE ROTRAUT. My kid and I can both spend hours poring through her wimmelbooks.

Fall is my favorite season, but the desert is a hard place for a lover of cool, crisp, cozy fall. But it is still a season of change and activity--eventually it does cool off! On the other hand, we have a lot of traditions this season. Fall festival at our church. Group camping at higher elevation with our friends. The Arizona Insect Festival. Dinner with our neighbors in the street on Halloween. The school turkey trot. The botanical garden's evening pumpkin patch. Traditional family Thanksgiving foods. The 100 miles, 100 days park challenge. All our birthdays! So much good, even if we still sweat through it! haha!

I need to Google AZ insect festival. That sounds both cool and terrifying at the same time 😅. You have some wonderful Fall things planned! ❤️

Both my kiddos were interested in Kafka and the Doll, including the end note at the back that described Metamorphosis. Thanks for the recommendation!

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World popped up in our holds over fall break and I made my 11 year old read it to me. We had a good laugh at the end! He needs to practice reading out loud a little and picture books are just right for this!

I had a similar experience last night. Most days run me ragged. I'm looking for the Poppleton series at our library but haven't found any yet! I might have to request a hold. I'm looking forward to cool weather, painting pumpkins, and maple flavored treats.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. Sometimes it can feel very lonely to deeply love your child but also to be done with them in that moment 🫣

Even as an Australian across the other side of the world, I love it when it hits Autumn in the US 🍂 Not ashamed to say that pumpkin spice lattes truly live up to the hype in my eyes ☕️

Okay so now I need to know. Does Starbucks launch PSL in Australia during Northern Hemisphere autumn or Southern Hemisphere autumn? Also, I always find it so fascinating to have opposite seasons!

It actually releases according to American Autumn. If there’s one thing Australia loves to do, it is to try and be like America. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse 😂

That’s so interesting! I’m trying to imagine enjoying a PSL in Spring and I think it’ll break my brain 😂

America is great in a lot of ways but we don’t have a Piastri 🙃

Oh Poppleton, we love you so. The pumpkin patch is maybe one of my absolute favorite things about fall, and even if it’s 90 and sweaty in Texas and not muddy and chilly like my Washington upbringing, I still want to take the whole family to the patch every year. The one we go to here has a giant corn pit…sort of like a ball pit but with feed corn and it’s a weird and fun hit. Lol.

That is so weird and COOL! I love it. It’s such a genius of an idea. Maybe you need to start a corn pit (💀) in TX?

Expand full comment
Alexis Davis's avatar

not to be confused with a Korn pit. The corn pit is in Texas...but maybe Ill start one in WA? ...I think it rains too much in Washington fall for a pit of corn to be a good idea....unless its like corn porridge pit which is bringing me back to some pudding wrestling stories I heard about in college and suddenly a KORN pit is seeming tame. LOL

Oh haha I misunderstood! But yes maybe some corn pudding wrestling is in order for PNW? 🤣🤣🤣
